PURPOSE: To improve sealing effect and the life of a sealing device by seating a seal ring in the low-pressure side of a groove by the pressurization and the friction force between the seal ring and its circumferential face, forming a seal edge in the same position in the circumferential face irrelevant to the rotational movement direction and the pressurization, and tilting it in the low pressure side.
CONSTITUTION: A mechanical element 11 is provided with a groove 24 for receiving a seal ring 15 and a bias ring and the seal ring 15 is seated on a seal ring face 23 on the circumferential face 21 of a mechanical element 12 in the non-pressure and/or stationary state. The seal ring 15 is partially separated from the low-pressure side 19 of the groove 24 and forms an outer circumferential face 25 parallel to the shaft 14. When the seal ring 15 is exposed to the pressurization and/or the friction force between the seal ring 15 and the circumferential face 21, the seal ring 15 is seated on the low-pressure side 19 of the grove 24, forms a seal edge 22 relative to the circumferential face, and rotationally moves toward the low-pressure side N. The seal edge 22 is arranged in the same position at all times irrelevant to the rotational movement and/or the pressurization of the seal ring 15. This constitution can improve the seal ring and elongate its life.
