To provide a sealing material which has good holdability of fibers of feathers in contact with a movable body, prevents the pull off of the feathers and can prevent the leakage of fine powder and granular materials.

The sealing material for preventing the leakage of the fine powder and granular materials which is excellent in slipperiness and wear resistance and is mainly composed of a pile fabric consisting of pile yarn forming the sliding feathers and a ground fabric of a plain stitch structure supporting the pile yarn and in which the pile yarn of the feathers is high- strength polyethylene fibers of 0.1 to 6.0 dTex in single yarn fineness, ≥1.1 in oblateness of the section of the fibers and ≥22 cN/dTex in average tensile strength, 1.5 to 4 mm in the height of the feathers, 13,000 to 346,000 pieces/cm2 in the piloerection density of the pile yarn segments, and 0.02 to 0.2 cm2 in the sectional area of the pile yarn per 1 cm2 base cloth and which has a coating layer for preventing the pull off of the feathers on the backside of the ground cloth.
