Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing structure of a battery that has high sealing performance for a battery having an explosion-proof function and also can contribute toward effecting high efficiency of the battery assembly operation.
SOLUTION: A layered body is composed of three members: a cap member 3, a PTC element 4, and a safety valve 5 provided with a rupturing portion that has the same outside diameter as the cap member 3 and is to be ruptured with the inner pressure increase in a battery. The layered body is mounted by fitting it on to the upper surface of stepped portion of a gasket 8 made of a soft plastic with its peripheral edge contacted tightly to the inner surface of the gasket 8. Then, the gasket 8 is inserted into an opening of an armored battery container 2; by pressing on a side peripheral surface 2b of the armored battery container 2 where the side edges of the cap member 3 and the safety valve 5 are located and at the same time by bending and pressing the fringe of the opening of the armored battery container 2 together with the gasket 8 on to the upper surface of the cap member 3 toward the center of the battery, the gasket 8 is led in between the battery container 2 and the joining surface of the side edges of the cap member 3, the PTC element 4 and the safety valve 5, and finally sealed.
