Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery, whose discharge capacity per unit weight is increased by greatly lightening battery container as compared with a conventional Ni-plated iron can or a stainless steel can, and in which the change of a fundamental structure of the secondary battery caused by formation of an intermetallic compound with Li, or the like, is avoided. SOLUTION: The secondary battery is equipped with a battery container 5 which has a one end opening bottomed shape, a generating element 3 which is stored in the battery container 5, and a lid which tightly seals the opening of the battery container 5 in which the generating element 3 is stored. The battery container 5 is composed of a Mg-Al-Zn alloy or a Mg-Zn-Zr alloy. As the Mg-Al-Zn alloy, the composition, which contains Al of 2-10 wt.% and Zn of 0.5-2 wt.%, and the residue substantially composed of Mg, and also which contains Mn of 2 wt.% or less is used. As the Mg-Zn-Zr alloy, a composition which contains Zn of 8 wt.% and Zr of 0.3-1 wt.%, and the residue substantially composed of Mg, is used.
