To provide a security system that enables a monitoring center to quickly detect any abnormality even if the abnormality occurs to a communication line or a communication unit between the time when the monitoring center received a provisional alarm and the time when a first prescribed time length has elapsed.
A communication unit 3 is provided with mode setting means that can switch over between a security mode in which a security area is to be guarded and a non-security mode in which no guarding is done, provisional alarm transmitting means that transmits a provisional alarm signal i to a monitoring center 4 when a detection signal d is received from detecting means 2 during the security mode period, and communicating state holding means that holds a communicating state with the monitoring center 4. During a first prescribed time length T1 after the monitoring center 4 receives the provisional alarm signal i, communication with the communication unit 3 is held by the communicating state holding means and, if it is determined that the communicating state is not held during the first prescribed time length T1, the occurrence of an abnormality is determined.
