Abstract:

To obtain a new semi-sandwich complex of a mononuclear bis- alkylmetal capable of obtaining a uniform high purity product in an industrial scale by coordinating and polymerizing various monomers such as a polar olefinic unsaturated monomer, lactone, etc.

This semi-sandwich complex of a non-cross-linked mononuclear bis-alkylmetal having a polymerization activity based on a rare earth metal, is expressed by the formula (M is scandium, yttrium, lanthanum, or lanthanide; R is H, a halogen, a 6-15 aryl or the like; R' and R" are each a 1-20C alkyl, a 3-10C cycloalkyl, a 6-15C aryl or the like; L is a low molecular weight organic compound of a Lewis base; (m) is 0-4; (n) is 0, 1), e.g. [(trimethylsilyl) cyclopentadienyl]yttrium. Further, the compound of the formula is obtained by reacting M[CH2-n(SiR"3)1+n]3(L)2 with CpR4(H)(SiR'3) in an inert solvent.
