Abstract:

To reduce the disturbance in an output light far view field pattern.SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser element 1 comprises a first emitter 31, and a second emitter 51. The first emitter 31 has a thickness which is different from that of the second emitter 51 so that the average value of indexes DB1 and DB2 given by the formulae (1) and (2) becomes 5% or below, where F1(θ) is a far view field pattern only for the first emitter, and F2(θ) is a far view field pattern only for the second emitter; F01(θ) is a far view field pattern of light emitted by the first and second emitter and also a far view field pattern of one of two modes corresponding to basis modes, and F02(θ) a far view field pattern of the other mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
