Abstract:

To provide semiconductor nanoparticles which exhibit dispersibility in water and free from cadmium and to provide a method for producing the semiconductor nanoparticles relatively easily.

The semiconductor nanoparticles each contains, as a component, a sulfide or an oxide containing zinc, a group 11 element of the periodic table and a group 13 element of the periodic table or a sulfide or an oxide containing a group 11 element of the periodic table and a group 13 element of the periodic table. The surface of each semiconductor nanoparticle is modified with at least one compound represented by general formula (1): R1-X-Y-R2 (wherein, R1 is a functional group containing nitrogen or sulfur; R2 is an ionic functional group; X is a hydrocarbon group; and Y is a linking group).
