Abstract:
To provide a separation method for cobalt and nickel in which cobalt and nickel are collected from a lithium ion secondary battery at low cost.SOLUTION: A separation method for cobalt and nickel includes a crushing and classifying step of crushing and classifying a lithium ion secondary battery to yield an electrode material, a cleaning step of cleaning the electrode material with water and collecting alkaline cleaning waste liquid, a leaching step of immersing the electrode material cleaned in the cleaning step in a treatment liquid containing sulfuric acid to yield a leachate, a copper precipitation step of adding a hydrogen sulfide compound to the leachate and stirring, followed by solid-liquid separation to yield an eluate containing cobalt and nickel and a residue containing copper sulfide, a first treatment step or a second treatment step that includes a neutralization process and a filtration process, and a cobalt-nickel separation step of adding a hydrogen sulfide compound to the eluted liquid generated in the first treatment step or the neutralized liquid generated in the second treatment step, followed by stirring and solid-liquid separation to yield a precipitate containing cobalt sulfide and nickel sulfide, and a residual liquid containing lithium.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
