PURPOSE: To easily generate an original font by storing picture data which a picture data output means outputs in a picture data storage means, outputting only a character picture from stored picture data, compressing character picture data and outputting character data in a prescribed size.
CONSTITUTION: Picture data outputted from a picture data output means R is inputted to a character picture read means S2, only character picture data is read from picture data and it is inputted to a character picture data compression means S3. It compresses the character picture data into character data and it is stored in the internal memory of a serial type image scanner printer or the storage device of a host computer and the like in correspondence with the prescribed code. Thus, the stored character is read and printed when the corresponding character code is designated.
