To provide a sewing device which is constituted so as to command a sewing start in a state where protection is performed by a safety cover, and to provide the safety cover therefor by which the hands and fingers can be kept safe at the sewing time.

The safety cover is arranged, which covers a part of the outer surface side of a device main body 2. The safety cover 3 is constituted to be changed-over at a sewing position and a storage position and is provided with a switch operation hole 3e. The device is constituted in such a way that the switch operation hole 3e is opposed to a start/stop switch 16 for commanding the start and the end of sewing only in a state where the safety cover 3 is changed-over to the sewing position.
