Abstract:
To provide a shaft seal with a small sliding loss without upsizing or degradation of controllability of a valve, etc. supported by a rotating body.
A shaft seal 4 comprises an annular seal part arranged on the outer peripheral surface of a shaft 2 serving as a rotating body and wholly divided in the axial direction of the shaft 2; and a housing 6 housing the seal part. One segment of the seal part is a contact seal 7 in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the shaft 2, and the other segment is a non-contact seal 8 adjacent to the contact seal 7 in the axial direction of the shaft 2, opposed to the outer peripheral surface of the shaft 2 via a clearance, and shielding split portions of the contact seal 7.
