To provide a new anti-inflammatory agent, namely a shark cartilage extract which is non-toxic for normal cells, is effective for various diseases and states, and has a large clinical value.

This composition for treating diseases or disorders having collagenolytic or inflammatory properties comprises, as an active ingredient, a shark cartilage extract which is a supernatant fraction obtained after the centrifugation of the aqueous homogeneous product of all shark cartilages, wherein the supernatant fraction is fractionated and recovered on a membrane having a value for cutting off the mol.wts. of greater than 500 kDa, has molecules having mol.wts. lower than 500 kDa, and has an anti-inflammatory and anti-collagenolytic activities.
