To provide a sheet discharging device capable of providing sufficient stiffness to a sheet while eliminating a stiffening discharge roller, and having a structure capable of improving discharging and stacking properties of a wide range of sheet types from a thin paper to a thick paper, and to provide an image forming apparatus.
A sheet discharging device 1 comprises discharge roller pairs 4 discharging sheets S1, S2 and a discharge tray 65 stacking the sheets discharged by the discharge roller pairs 4. The sheet discharging device further comprises upper air nozzle 6 and lower air nozzles 7a, 7b which are arranged and shifted alternately in a width direction perpendicular to a sheet discharging direction at upper and lower positions facing front and rear surfaces of the sheet discharged from the discharge roller pairs 4 and which jet air to the sheet discharged from a nip portion N from above and below. Accordingly, discharging and stacking properties of a wide range of sheet types are improved.
