PURPOSE: To secure necessary rigidity and lighten a structure by dividing the internal structure of side structure into proper number of blocks, forming each block of metallic plate in a body, making holes to reduce weight, and forming ribs in vertical and horizontal directions around the holes.
CONSTITUTION: In the side body structure of a vehicle, a waist bone 31 is integrally made of metallic plates as a block comprising a long base, side post, window sill, and reinforcing members, and a plurality of holes 31a are made to reduce weight, and ribs 31b and 31c are formed around the holes in vertical and horizontal directions respectively. In the same manner, the bone 32 of a door pocket section is integrally made of a metallic plate as a block comprising a side entrance post, door end post, door pocket post, reinforcing members, and door pocket sill, and ribs 32b and 32c are formed around the holes made vertical and horizontal directions respectively. In addition, on the upper section of these blocks 31 and 32, window head 7, door lintel 8, and window head post 10 are connected to each other. The skeleton of a side body is thus constituted. On the skeleton, an external waist panel 13, external door pocket panel 14, and external sill panel 15 are attached.
