To form a high silver chloride (111) type grains without hindering adsorption of a spectral sensitizing dye to silver halide grains by using a specified diazaindene compound as a crystallization vice controller.
An emulsifier in which the silver halide grains have a silver chloride content of ≥80 mol.% and ≥50% of the surfaces areas of the silver halide grains comprise the spectrally sensitized faces (111) and these grains occupy ≥50% of the projection areas of the total silver halide grains and they have been grown in the presence of the diazaindene compound represented by the formula in which R1 is an H atom or a carboxyl or alkoxycabonyl group; R2 is an H atom or an alkyl or carboxyl or alkoxycarbonyl cyano group; and each or R3-R6 is, independently, an H atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, aralkyl, or aralkyloxy group. The silver halide grains have an average thickness of ≤0.5 μm, and an average aspect ratio of ≥5.
