To reduce the operating noises of a swash plate type compressor provided with a single head piston.
This single head piston 14 for the swash plate type compressor is provided with a neck part 80 engaged with a swash plate through a shoe, and a head part 82 sliding in a cylinder bore 12. The head part 82 is provided with a body part 124, and an outer peripheral side sliding part 126 and an inner peripheral side sliding part 128 projected onto the neck part 80 side from the body part 124. The outer peripheral surface of the head part 82 is formed of a cylindrical surface 152 and curved surfaces 146, 148, 150 smoothly extending from the end of the cylindrical surface 152. The curved surfaces 146, 148, 150 are so formed that the distance from the centerline of the cylindrical surface 152 gradually decreases as they go away from the cylindrical surface 152 and that the cross sectional shape in a cut plane including the centerline of the cylindrical surface 152 is formed in a circular arc with the specified radius of curvature. The radius of curvature of this circular arc is larger than the diameter of the cylinder bore 12. The formation of the curved surfaces 146, 148, 150 prevents the piston from coming in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder bore 12 when reciprocated in the cylinder bore 12 or reduces contact surface pressure to reduce operating noise.
