PURPOSE:To measure the size of the disk cartridge speedily by comparing detection data obtained by a detecting device with reference data on the reference cartridge size of the same shape with a reference measurement cartridge which is inputted previously. CONSTITUTION:Motors 5 and 10 are put in operation so as to position a photosensor 15 at the measurement point of a corner part of a positioning member 11 at a measurement position A at the periphery of a reference plate 18R set previously to measure surface accuracy, and a mount base is moved. Then a position (a) is irradiated with light from the light emitting element of the sensor 15 and its reflected light is photodetected by the photodetecting element of the sensor 15; and the sensor 15 measures the distance to the point (a) on the reference plate 18R and its measured value is stored in a CPU 21 through a controller 20. Then the motors 5 and 10 are driven to measure the depth and width of the reference plate 18R and position data being abutted on (x)- and (y)-directional limit switches 16a and 16b are stored in the CPU 21. Then measurement data on the disk cartridge to be measured and the reference plate 18R are compared by the CPU 21 to decide whether or not the body to be measured is normal.
