To protect a sleeper in bed against fall in earthquake.
This device includes guide frames 2 set up on the front and rear sides of a bed 10, a protecting panel 3 mounted between the guide frames in such a manner as to be slidable along the guide frames, wire members pulled through the guide frames and connected to the protecting panel to allow the protecting panel to be towed and moved along the guide frames, and a driving device 5 having a drum 25 set up under the bed for moving the protecting panel with the drive of the wire members and a motor 26 for rotating the drum, whereby the protecting panel can be normally located on one of both side faces of the bed and moved to a fixed position where it covers the bed in earthquake. A sensor 6 which is set up in a movement passage for the protecting panel at a height of detecting the existance of a person, and a control device for controlling the driving device in earthquake to actuate the protecting panel are provided, the control device restricting the movement of the protecting panel to avoid collision with a person in response to a detection signal from the sensor.
