Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel solid catalyst component for olefin polymn. which is prepd. by causing a specific anhydrous Mg dihalide in an active form to support a Ti halide and a specified ester, and gives a highly active catalyst capable of producing a polymer with a high stereospecificity at a high productivity.
CONSTITUTION: This solid catalyst component is prepd. by causing a support (A) which comprises an anhydrous Mg dihalide (pref. MgCl2) in active form, has a surface area of 30-40 m2/g, and gives an X-ray powder spectrum wherein the strongest diffraction line appearing in the spectrum of the corresponding halide having a surface area of 1 m2/g decreases in relative strength and widens to form a halo, to support a Ti halide or a halo-Ti-alcoholate (B) (pref. TiCl4) and an ester (C) selected from among arom, dicarboxylic mono- or diesters each of which has a COOH group at the o-position and of which R of COOR has 3-220 carbon atoms and arom. hydroxy compd. mono- or polyesters each having at least two OH groups at the o-position (pref. maleic ester or the like).
