Abstract:

To provide a sliding member excellently maintaining fit-in property, by reducing diffusion of an additional element in an overlay layer, in the sliding member coating the overlay layer formed of Bi or a Bi alloy including added elements on a base material via an intermediate layer.

This sliding member is provided by coating the overlay layer 4 on the base material 2 via the intermediate layer 3. The overlay layer 4 is formed by adding the added element composed of metal of a low melting point to the Bi or the Bi alloy, and the intermediate layer 3 is formed by adding the added element to Ag or an Ag alloy. The quantity of the added element added to the intermediate layer 3 is set to five times or more as much as the quantity included in the overlay layer 4.
