To provide a sludge treatment method which enables the miniaturization of sludge treatment equipment, facilitates maintenance and control and provides a high sludge volume reducing ratio by stable biological treatment, and the sludge treatment equipment using the same.
Biological sludge, which is generated by the biological treatment of organic wastewater in a biological treatment process, is guided into a reaction tank and subjected to usual aeration in the reaction tank by a predetermined amount of air to be aerobically treated. The aerobic treatment is performed by ensuring a predetermined solid matter stagnation time equal to or longer than the solid matter stagnation time required for usual aerobic digestion to accelerate the autolysis and solubilization of the biological sludge. Subsequently, new biological sludge is introduced into the reaction tank from a biological treatment process and restrictively aerated by a restricted amount of air capable of forming an oxygen-free state to biologically denitrify nitrate nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen formed by aerobic treatment and a cycle again returning aerobic treatment is repeated to reduce the volume of sludge.
