Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stabilize the soil of ground at a construction site where seawater is easily available, economically, by impregnating the soil with water-glass diluted with seawater.

CONSTITUTION: A solution comprising 30W55wt.% of an alkali silicate, preferably sodium silicate, 20W50vol.% of a water-glass solution (40% by weight) wherein the molar ratio of SiO2/Na2O is 2W4, preferably 2.1W3.5, 1W20vol.% of a setting agent, e.g. cement, etc., and the remainder of seawater, is impregnated into soil by the shot method by means of a liguid injection equipmint.

EFFECT: The amount of the setting agent required to attain a desired strength level can be decreased due to the effect of metal ions in seawater, and the setting time can be controlled.
