Title:
SOL-GEL COATED SPHERICAL PARTICLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2607031
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide powder by a relatively simple process in which the powder has a relatively narrow size distribution and a substantially uniform particle size and can form films by sintering at a low sintering temp. to avoid cracking.
CONSTITUTION: The process is constituted by coating small particles of well-defined crystalline phases with a polymerized gel. By the process, a sol-gel type coating is formed on the particles to provide particles which have a narrow size distribution. In many instances, crystalline particles of irregular shape have a substantially spherical shape upon coating with the sol-gel. In instances where the core is a high melting point material, such as oxide, nitride or carbide, a low sintering temp. can become possible, which permits forming films of the particles at a much lower temp. than would otherwise.
