PURPOSE: To provide a solar lighting system in which time and cost for replacing a lamp are reduced by constituting a light-source lamp of a specific external electrode type rare gas discharge lamp in a solar lighting device provided with an appliance body, a solar battery and a light-source lamp.

CONSTITUTION: A solar lighting system is provided with an appliance body, a solar battery disposed in the appliance main body and a light-source lamp which is lighted by using the solar battery as an energy source. The light-source lamp is constituted of an external electrode type rare gas discharge lamp in which a fluorescent material film 17 is applied to the inner wall surface of a glass bulb 16, a rare gas containing a xenon gas as a main component is filled in the glass bulb, the both end surfaces of the glass bulb 16 are sealed and a pair of strip-like electrodes 18 are provided in opposite to each other over the full length of the external wall surface. Thereby, a filament is not cut off unlike a fluorescent lamp or incandescent lamp and light-source lamp having a semipermanent life can be used, so that a maintenance-free solar lighting system may be obtained.
