The sound producing apparatus for a vehicle notifying outside the vehicle of a vehicle's approach includes: an original tone generating unit 2 generating an original tone of an approaching sound for recognition of the vehicle's approach; a modulation tone generating unit 4 generating a modulation tone from the original tone with a comb filter function 4a selectively applying greater gains on frequency components of harmonic series of a predetermined fundamental frequency; a sound pressure setting unit 5 setting a sound pressure of the approaching sound of the modulation tone; and a speaker 6 producing outside the vehicle the approaching sound of the modulation tone with the set sound pressure.
