To provide a sound source estimating method which easily allow estimating the position of a sound source even if the direction of the sound source is out of a video region of a video capturing means.
A camera platform 13b installed on a tripod 13a on an attaching pedestal 13 is installed, a microphone fixing mount 11D fixing microphones M1-M5 is installed on the upper part of the camera platform 13b, and a video capturing means 12 is rotatably attached on the camera platform 13b via a rotating means 14. The sound source direction is estimated using sound pressure signals output from the microphones M1-M5, and the magnitude of a horizontal angle θ in the estimated sound source direction is compared with the maximum view field θMax and minimum view field θmin in the horizontal angle direction of the video capturing means 12. If the magnitude of the horizontal angle θ is larger than θMax-γ or smaller than θmin+γ, the video capturing means 12 is rotated to photograph the sound source position.
