Abstract:

To improve fuel economy performance and exhaust gas performance, by maintaining operation for performing compressed self-ignition in the widest load area by introducing burnt gas burnt in a lean state by a preceding cylinder into a succeeding cylinder.

When controlling a special operation mode of performing the compressed self-ignition in the succeeding cylinder by introducing the burnt gas into the succeeding cylinder by performing lean combustion in the preceding cylinder, when the succeeding cylinder intake air temperature rises to the upper limit temperature T1 or more, the EGR ratio R is increased, or the air-fuel ratio of the preceding cylinder is corrected to the richer side than the air-fuel ratio corresponding to an initial set value. When the succeeding cylinder intake air temperature T is the lower limit temperature T2 or less, the EGR ratio R is reduced, or the air-fuel ratio of the preceding cylinder is corrected to the lean side.
