Abstract:

To suppress the erroneous detection of a mechanical compression ratio variation even if the pitching oscillation of a cylinder block is generated in a cylinder arrangement direction.

A spark-ignition type internal combustion engine includes: a cylinder block to align and define a plurality of cylinder bores; a variable compression ratio mechanism changing the capacity of a combustor chamber by relatively moving the cylinder block with respect to a crank case, and varies the mechanical compression ratio; and a lift amount sensor detecting a relative lift amount of the cylinder block with respect to the crank case where a filter means filters a signal outputted from the lift amount sensor to remove a signal of a specific frequency component which is determined according to an engine rotation speed from the signal outputted from the lift amount sensor, and the variable compression ratio mechanism controls the mechanical compression ratio based on the signal after being filtered by the filter means.
