Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide MgAl2O4 spinel powder which can be used as a carrier to give a catalyst having an excellent NOx-clearing performance, and to provide a slurry which contains the spinel powder and can easily be coated as a coating material to produce a coating film not generating peelings and cracks. SOLUTION: This MgAl2O4 spinel powder has a specific surface area of >=80 m2/g, an average particle diameter of 3 to 20 μm, and fine pores having an identical size. The spinel powder is obtained, concretely, by subjecting hydroxide raw materials comprising aluminum hydroxide having an average particle diameter (D1) and magnesium hydroxide having an average particle diameter (D2) in a D1/D2 ratio expressed by the inequality: '2<(D1/D2)' or '0.5>(D1/D2)' to 8 coprecipitation method, calcining the synthesized product and then pulverizing the obtained MgAl2O4 spinel.
