To provide a spinning unit and a spinning machine, capable of detecting whether or not a spun yarn has fallen from a yarn hooking part.
A spinning unit comprises: an air spinning device 9 which applies twits to a fiber bundle 8 to generate a spun yarn 10; a yarn storage roller 21 which is disposed on a downstream side of the air spinning device 9 and temporarily stores the spun yarn 10 by winding the spun yarn 10 around an outer peripheral surface 21a and rotating; a yarn hooking part 22 which is disposed on a downstream side of the yarn storage roller 21 and winds the spun yarn 10 around an outer peripheral surface of the yarn storage roller 21 by rotating integrally with the yarn storage roller 21 while being in contact with the spun yarn 10; a yarn removing lever 28 which can remove the spun yarn 10 from the yarn hooking part 22; and a yarn removal detection part (an over-storage detection sensor 27b, a travel detection sensor 31 and a yarn movement detection sensor 50) which detects removal of the spun yarn 10 from the yarn hooking part 22 by the yarn removing lever 28.
