The spiral type membrane module 100 is formed by loading a spiral type membrane element in a pressure container. The spiral type membrane element is formed by covering a spiral-shaped membrane element consisting of a plurality of independent or continuous envelope-like membranes on the outer peripheral surface via raw water spaces with a separation membrane, and further covering the resultant assembly with an outer peripheral part flow path material. In operation, raw water 51 taken in from a raw water tank 200 is pressurized with a pressure pump 101 and is fed to the spiral type membrane module 100. Here, the output of the pressure pump 101 is controlled with an automatic control device 150 so that a fixed flow rate of the raw water 51 is fed. At a washing, the output of a pressure pump 102 is controlled with an automatic control device 151 in accordance with the degree of the variation of a value of a raw water inlet side pressure meter 120.
