Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a spironolactone composition comprising an effective dose of a spironolactone, an emulsifier, a proper solvent, a buffering agent and water, extremely stable on storage for a long period, and useful for treating acne, hirsutism and diseases caused by the excessive activities of male hormones. CONSTITUTION: This spironolactone comprises (A) 1.0-12.0wt.% of a spironolactone, (B) 2.5-18.5wt.% of an emulsifier comprising B1 : a stearyl alcohol- sodium lauryl sulfate mixture and B2 : a glycol monostearate-polyoxyethylene stearate mixture, (C) 0.5-6.0wt.% of a solvent selected from diisopropyl adipate and a 8-10C ethoxylated glycerol, (D) 0.2-2.3% of a buffering agent comprising a weak acid salt and a weak acid, and (E) 50-80wt.% of water. The component B preferably has a B1 /B2 ratio of (1.5-12.0)/(1.0-6.5). The composition may further be compounded with a preservative such as methyl p-hydroxybenzoate or imidazolidinylurea.
