PURPOSE: To obtain split pavers which may be joined with a small amt. of an adhesive and may be completely joined at the time of using the split pavers as paving materials.

CONSTITUTION: A paving unit 30 may be divided to the two split pavers (coated tiles) along a horizontal plane. The production thereof is executed by extruding a clay mixture from the rectangular opening of an extruder 12. The extruder 12 has an insert to divide the extrudate to two equal sheets and to form grooves on the inner surfaces of both. The extrudate is thereafter cut and divided to individual units which are then compressed and fired.
