The air conditioner for vehicle comprises the electric motor (synchronous motor) 9a and a control circuit 25, and the control circuit 25 rotates a rotating magnetic field by flowing a three-phase alternate current to a stator coil 10 at start control (steps S120, S130). By this, the rotor 11 rotates in synchronization with the rotating magnetic field. The three-phase alternate current which flows to the stator coil 10 is a minimum current, wherein the rotor 11 generates torque to start at least rotation of the rotor 11 when an angle between a rotational coordinate and a fixed coordinate allows the rotor 11 to generate the maximum torque. Accordingly, the excessive torque is suppressed from being generated at the rotor 11.
