To provide a step counting system and a pedometer capable of transmitting steps or the like counted by the pedometer through communication equipment so that high-grade information or various interesting information based on the steps counted by the pedometer can be acquired, while avoiding cost increase or enlargement of the pedometer.

This pedometer includes a clock means for showing the date and time, a storage means for storing the steps detected by a detection means and counted at each prescribed time unit, and a communication means for creating data registration mail attached by the date and time shown by the clock means at the mail creation time and the steps at each prescribed time unit until the date and time by using the connected communication equipment, and transmitting the data registration mail to a server by using the communication equipment. The server includes a totalization means for totalizing correlatively the counted steps and the calculated date and time retrospectively based on the date and time at the mail creation time attached to the data registration mail.
