To provide a sterilization method that is suitably used for sterilization on contents stored in a packaging container.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a sterilization method for sterilization using a gas for sterilization to sterilize contents stored in a container body. The container body comprises a storage part, and a flange part having a primary seal scheduled region, a secondary seal scheduled region, a flange upper part, a flange lower part, and a penetration scheduled region. The sterilization method comprises a storing process, a penetration hole forming process, a primary sealing process, a sterilizing process, and a secondary sealing process. The primary sealing process includes forming a circulation path between a lid member supported by the flange upper part, and the flange lower part so that a gas can be circulated between the outside and the inside of the storage part, the sterilizing process includes circulating the gas for sterilization into the storage part through the circulation path, and the secondary sealing process includes closing the circulation path as the lid member and the secondary seal scheduled region are sealed to completely seal the contents.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
