PURPOSE: To attain overlap image pickup of a still picture properly by providing a still picture recording means recording separately respectively plural still pictures onto a recording medium and an overlapping picture recording means storing plural still pictures onto a recording medium in duplicate to the camera.

CONSTITUTION: Each one still picture and a video image overlapping the still pictures are recorded on a tape 109. A recording flag is set when a still picture is stored in a picture memory 104 and cleared when the still picture is recorded on a recording tape 109. Moreover, the still pictures are overlapped in the recording standby mode and the still picture not in duplicate is recorded in a timing when each still picture is overlapped and the overlapped picture recording is started when a switch 113 is switched to the recording position and when the recording is finished, the tape 109 is automatically stopped, memories 104, 118 and the counter are cleared and new overlapping is awaited. Thus, from the image pickup of the overlapped picture till its recording are ensured by inter-communication between controllers 111,112.
