PURPOSE: To prevent diameters of opposite side ends of wound coil from increasing, by making a pair of work rollers, which have tapered portions at their end portion at an opposite side to each other, movable in an axial direction and winding a strip to a winding machine by properly shifting the strip toward its width direction when rolling.
CONSTITUTION: When rough rolling is performed, working rollers 21 are roller- shifted so that tapered portions of the working rollers 21 provide an increased plate thickness portion of, for example, 10μm to both side edges of a strip 26 and the strip is rolled with the working rollers 21 depressed to a prescribed gap. The working rollers are properly shifted to a plate width direction of the strip 26 for each layer again for winding the strip 26 by a winding machine 28 at the right hand. Then, the working rollers are depressed to a prescribed gap for rolling the strip 26 and at the same time a mandrel 27a of the winding machine 27 is properly shifted in an axial direction for each layer while it is rotated for winding the strip 26. Repeating this rough rolling several times makes a winding diameter of an entire wound coil uniform by avoiding the side edges of the strip of which thickness increases to overlap.
