PURPOSE: To directly extract strokes of high quality which utilize the features of an original character figure pattern whatever shape the contour data of an inputted character figure pattern is in by providing the best unit stroke correcting means.
CONSTITUTION: This device is equipped with a preprocessing part 1 which functions to divide the input contour data into unit segments and then detect opposite unit segments in pairs and a unit stroke extraction part 2 which extracts unit strokes from the couples of opposite unit segments. Further, the device is equipped with a unit stroke interpolation and adjustment part 3 which corrects, i.e. interpolates and adjusts the unit strokes and a parameter storage part 4 for interpolation and adjustment which is stored with parameters used by the unit stroke interpolation and adjustment part 3. Furthermore, the device is equipped with a unit stroke connection part 5 which connects connectable unit strokes in order into a stroke, a connection parameter storage part 6 stored with connection parameters used for the connection part 5, and an output part 7. Consequently, strokes of high quality which utilize the features of the original character figure pattern can be extracted.
