Title:
STRUCTURAL MATERIAL FOR HIGH VACUUM AND HIGH TEMPERATURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH08100232
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a structural material not causing thermal deformation or producing thermal strain in a hot atmosphere and ensuring required surface smoothness by incorporating ceramics such as alumina or silicon carbide into Al as a base metal.

CONSTITUTION: Fibers of ceramics such as alumina, alumina-silica, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, potassium titanate or aluminum borate are pressed to form a ceramic fiber preform 1. This preform 1 is put in a preheated metal mold, molten Al or Al alloy as a base metal 2 is poured into the mold and molten metal forging is carried out by casting under high pressure. The base metal 2 enters the gaps in the preform 1 and the preform 1 is contained in the base metal 2. Since the surface of the resultant material is coated with the Al or Al alloy, surface smoothness required to attain high vacuum is easily ensured.
