Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title copolymer having a specific steric structure and having good heat resistance, chemical resistance, compatibility, adhesion and wetting properties, etc., by polymerizing a styrene based monomer with an maleimide based monomer in the presence of a Ti compound-alkylaluminoxane based catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A styrene based monomer expressed by formula I (R<1> is H, halogen or <=20C hydrocarbon; m is 1-3) is polymerized with a (N-substituted) maleimide monomer expressed by formula II (R<2> is H, <=20C saturated hydrocarbon, benzyl, phenyl, etc.) in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a titanium compound and alkylaluminoxane to provide the aimed copolymer composed of styrene based recurring unit expressed by formula III and maleimide based recurring unit expressed by formula IV, containing 0.1-50wt.% maleimide recurring unit, being 0.07-20dl/g in intrinsic viscosity measured in 1,2,4- trichlorobenzene at 135 deg.C and mainly having syndiotactic structure in styrene based recurring unit chain.
