Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the surface accuracy of an Al-base substrate and to prolong the service life of a disk by forming a hard carbon film on the surface of the substrate.
CONSTITUTION: This substrate for a magnetic disk is an Al or Al alloy substrate having a hard carbon film formed on the surface. The hard carbon is amorphous carbon celled as i-carbon or diamondlike carbon and has high hardness. The substrate has superior surface accuracy, reduces signal errors and prolongs the service life of the disk.
