PURPOSE: To realize a image composite method and a device in which a panoramic image with an optional aspect ratio is obtained with less deterioration in image quality.
CONSTITUTION: Plural image pickup systems 10R, 10L are used to pick up an image of a common object 1 while overlapping part of a picture field and the plural image signals obtained by the image pickup system 10R, 10L are synthesized to form one image signal in this image composite method. Distance information of the object 1 is used to conduct coordinate transformation processing and the image signals outputted from the image pickup systems 10R, 10L are interpolated depending on the transformation coordinate and one of the interpolated image signals is selected with respect to an area where a remote distance part of the object 1 is hidden by a near distance part of the object among the overlapped area of the composite image signal to obtain one image signal which is outputted in the state defined at an optional object distance and image forming magnification from the image pickup system where the plural image signals outputted from the image pickup systems 10R, 10L are defined by the positional deviation of the visual point from the image pickup systems 10R, 10L and the angle of convergence of the optical axes LR, LL with respect to the visual point position and the directions of the optical axes LR, LL.
