To provide an internal combustion engine turbocharging system having sufficient transient performance during a transient condition when a delay occurs in the response of actual turbocharging pressure to the rise of target turbocharging pressure by effectively executing the opening control of a variable nozzle and the operating control of an assist means.
The internal combustion engine turbocharging system comprises a turbocharger 8 of a variable nozzle type for changing the cross section area of a turbine inlet, the turbocharging assist means for assisting the turbocharging of the turbocharger 8 with the operation of an electric motor 9, and a control means 20 for controlling the assist amount with the electric motor 9 and the nozzle opening of the turbocharger 8. The control means 20 controls the nozzle opening of the turbocharger 8 to be the minimum for a preset time during the transient condition when a delay occurs in the response of the actual turbocharging pressure to the rise of the target turbocharging pressure and assists the turbocharging with the operation of the electric motor 8 at starting the control.
