Title:
SUPPORT STRUCTURE FOR STEERING COLUMN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3941594
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce impact in the secondary collision of an occupant against a steering wheel by eliminating a pinch generated at the collapse of a steering column.
SOLUTION: A bracket 15 connected to the steering column 14 provided with a collapsing function is supported to the vehicle body side with a prescribed fixing force. The backward displacement of a steering shaft 12 at the collision is transmitted to a support part of the bracket 15 through a transmission member 30, and a backward displacement force is inputted to an eliminating means 20 through the transmission member 30. The pinch generated when the bracket 15 moves against the fixing force is thereby eliminated to smoothly perform the collapsing movement of the steering column 14 in the secondary collision of a driver against the steering wheel 11. Thus, impact energy at the initial state of interference is efficiently absorbed.
