Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool with an improved mechanical property of a film and a longer service life than that of cutting tools.SOLUTION: A surface-coated cutting tool comprises a base material and a film formed on the base material. The film includes a layer α-AlO. The layer α-AlOincludes a plurality of crystal particles α-AlO, and indicates an orientation (001). The particle boundary of the crystal particles includes a CSL particle boundary and a general particle boundary. In the CSL particle boundary, the length of a Σ3 type crystal particle boundary is more than 80% of the length of a Σ3-29 type crystal particle boundary, and is 10-50% of the total lenth of all particle boundaries which is the sum of the length of the Σ3-29 type crystal particle boundary and the length of the general particle boundary.SELECTED DRAWING: None
