Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool with an improved mechanical property of a film and a longer service life than that of cutting tools.SOLUTION: A surface-coated cutting tool comprises a base material and a film formed on the base material. The film includes a layer α-AlO, the layer α-AlOincludes a plurality of crystal particles α-AlO, and the particle boundary of the crystal particles includes a CSL particle boundary and a general particle boundary. Each layer α-AlOof a rake face side and a flank side indicates an orientation (001). On the layer α-AlOof the rake face side, the length Lof a Σ3 type crystal particle boundary is more than 80% of the length Lof a Σ3-29 type crystal particle boundary, and is 10-50% of the total length Lof all particle boundaries. On the layer α-AlOof the flank side, the length Lof the Σ3 type crystal boundary is more than 80% of the length Lof the Σ3-29 type crystal boundary, and is 10-50% of the total length Lof all particle boundaries.
