Title:
SURFACE-COATED ZINC OXIDE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME, AND ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT SHIELDING COMPOSITION USING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2008094646
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide zinc oxide from which the elution of zinc to an aqueous solvent is suppressed and which has enhanced thixotropy by coating with silica.

A surface-coated zinc oxide has the surface of the particles of the zinc oxide coated with co-precipitate containing titania and silica and has pH of 7 in powder. The above zinc oxide having the coated surface is manufactured by neutralizing a titanium compound and a silicon compound in aqueous slurry of zinc oxide at pH of 8.0-10.0 to form a coating film of the co-precipitate containing titania and silica. The zinc oxide is used as ultraviolet light shielding material blended in cosmetics, coating materials, plastics, papers and the like.
