Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance surface discharge intensity in the vicinity of a division, and ensure high display brightness by forming the metallic film of one of display electrodes as a pair formed out of a transparent conductive film and a metallic film in such a way as projected toward the other display electrode at the intersection hereof with the division.
CONSTITUTION: This display panel has a pair of surface discharge display electrodes X and Y formed out of a transparent conductive film 41 and a metallic film 42 superposed thereon on a display side substrate, while stripe type divisions 29 are provided on a reverse side substrate for dividing discharge space into unit luminous zones. The film 42 of one electrode X is formed so as to project toward the other electrode Y at the intersection thereof with the divisions 29 relative to other areas. The film of the other electrode Y is made linear in parallel to the conductive film 41. According to this construction, conductivity in the vicinity of the divisions 29 is increased, and intense surface discharge takes place in the neighborhood. As a result, the range of intense discharge within the unit luminous zones is expanded to increase brightness.
